Our History: Family, Grit, and Gears Since 1989

At Transplant Transmission, our story starts with one man, one dream, and a small shop in Thorndale, PA. In 1989, Scott Dittbrenner opened the doors to what would become a trusted name in transmission repair and rebuilding. With his sleeves rolled up and a deep passion for precision work, Scott laid the foundation of a business built on honesty, skill, and a commitment to doing the job right.

In 2000, Scott took a leap of faith and purchased our current location at 1040 Boot Road in Downingtown. He had big plans for the business! He had dreams of growth, expansion, and providing a higher level of service to more people in the community. But life took an unexpected turn. In the summer of 2002, Scott was diagnosed with liver cancer. Just six months later, in February 2003, he passed away, leaving behind his wife Arlene, and their two children, David and Lindsay.

Arlene stepped in during one of the most difficult times of her life. With strength and determination, she kept the business running. Learning the ropes, holding things together, and honoring Scott’s vision until their son, David, was ready to take the wheel.

After finishing his time in the Army, David Dittbrenner officially took over the business in 2014. Although David’s journey into owning and running the shop began long before then. He started working in the shop at just 13 years old, sweeping floors and absorbing everything he could about the trade. Over the years, he learned to remove and build transmissions by hand, gaining not just skill, but deep pride in the work that his father started.

Today, David is the owner and lead transmission builder at Transplant Transmission. With decades of hands-on experience and a lifetime spent in the shop, he has continued to grow the business while preserving the family-first foundation it was built on. In fact, David has now been running the shop longer than Scott ever had the chance to which is a testament to his dedication and love for the work.

Now, over 35 years since our founding, Transplant Transmission remains proudly family owned and operated. We’re honored to serve the Downingtown community and beyond, and we’re excited about where we’re headed. Scott’s dream lives on through David’s hands, and the legacy of hard work, family, and craftsmanship continues to drive us forward, one transmission at a time.

This is just the beginning and we are excited to see where David takes us!
